{"id":1722,"date":"2025-03-12T11:37:26","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T11:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/expanite.com?p=1722"},"modified":"2025-04-11T09:05:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T09:05:10","slug":"innovative-heat-treatment-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/expanite.com\/us\/innovative-heat-treatment-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovative Heat Treatment Technology Improving Wear And Galling Resistance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Expanite offers an innovative technology that prevents wear, galling, and corrosion of components in stainless steel or titanium by hardening the material in a pure-gas environment without using harsh chemicals, leaving no toxic waste and with a low carbon footprint.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hardening of parts such as gears and other essential products made from stainless-steel alloys is a vital and necessary process to ensure those parts perform optimally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expanite, a company that was born from research at The Technical University of Copenhagen, has grown its innovative process of hardening stainless steel more efficiently than previous methods.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"775\" height=\"339\" src=\"https:\/\/expanite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Washers.jpg\" alt=\"Heat treatment\" class=\"wp-image-792\" style=\"width:739px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/expanite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Washers.jpg 775w, https:\/\/expanite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Washers-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/expanite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Washers-768x336.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 775px) 100vw, 775px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides the proprietary processes for stainless steel and titanium, Expanite offers specialty heat treatment solutions including hardening, tempering, solution treatment, aging, and annealing for nickel-based alloys such Monel<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Inconel<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> or Mu-metal, stainless steels, titanium, and other specialty materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou can easily take stainless steel and put it in and harden it, but you lose corrosion properties right away if you don\u2019t know how to do it,\u201d said Claus L\u00f8ndal, country manager North America with Expanite. \u201cWe do that without losing corrosion properties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The beauty of Expanite\u2019s hardening process is it works with any stainless-steel alloy, according to L\u00f8ndal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe can take all stainless-steel alloys &#8211; and I mean every stainless-steel alloy, as long as they are defined as stainless steel,\u201d he said. \u201cThat means that it has to have around 12 percent chrome in the alloy. And we can harden them all. We can also harden some other alloys and titanium.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hardening stainless steel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stainless steel is an amazing material, according to L\u00f8ndal, but it isn\u2019t a very hard material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you go out and \u2014 you probably have a refrigerator or a dishwasher that is a stainless-steel surface &#8211; and if you take a knife, you can scratch it, or you can scratch it with your fingers; that\u2019s how soft it is,\u201d he said. \u201cWe can harden it almost 10 times as hard as that in the surface. It\u2019s a surface hardening of the material.
