Whatever Your Stainless Steel and Titanium Challenge

Sustainable Heat Treatment & Surface Hardening Solutions From Expanite®

Our sustainable case hardening processes are applicable to the most common stainless steel alloys including austenitic, martensitic, ferritic and duplex grades. Special alloys such as nickel-base alloys (Inconel®, Haynes®, Hastelloy®, Monel® etc.) can also be treated by Expanite processes.

The climate impact of the Expanite processes on stainless steel lead to 0,23-0.46 kg CO2 eq additional emissions per kg* of treated material.1).This should be compared to emissions of untreated stainless steel which are at 10.5 kg CO2 eq/kg 2).

Expanite treats stainless steel. Stainless steel contains (by market definition) a minimum of 10.5% chromium, as well as alloying elements. It is 100% recyclable, but both growth and <100% recycling imply that only a part of stainless steel is produced from recycled scrap. Depending on the level of recycled scrap the carbon footprint of stainless steel varies between about 3.3 and 10.5 tonne CO2eq/tonne steel, for 50% and 0% recycled feedstock respectively [Worldstainless 2023, CO2 emissions report].
